JR has done various solo projects, including playing at
many fiddle festivals, mainly in Ireland, and he is still
part of many other musical combinations, incuding The
Mad Mental Ceilidh Band.
John Robert plays a new fiddle from Shetland fiddle maker
Tommy Isbister, and he also uses for different jobs an
electric Skyinbow fiddle also made in Shetland. For that
sweet mellow sound JR prefers his old copy Vuillaume,
made in the late 1800's in France, and beautifully restored
to it's former glory by Fair Isle fiddle maker Ewan Thompson.
JR likes nothing better than a good going impromptu session
with various musicians, and has made many friends throughout
the years at home and abroad. JR's influences have included
Aly Bain, Rodney Miller and Stocktons Wing.
